At the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18, President Yoon Suk-yeol made a significant pledge to combat Africa’s food crisis, committing USD 10 million in humanitarian aid this year. In his speech, President Yoon highlighted Korea’s dedication to global efforts against hunger and poverty, stating, "We will actively take part in G20 efforts to conquer hunger and poverty."

A key moment during the summit was Korea's formal entry into the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty (GAAHP) as a charter member. This alliance, established under Brazil’s G20 chairmanship, connects nations in need of support with those offering resources to help develop solutions for poverty and food insecurity. As part of Korea’s ongoing efforts, the country will significantly boost its food aid next year to 150,000 tons through the United Nations World Food Program, doubling the previous year’s contribution.

In conclusion, President Yoon reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to fostering growth in developing countries as a critical solution to hunger and poverty. He emphasized the importance of global collaboration, declaring that the G20 must unite to create growth engines for developing nations, strengthening the bond between emerging economies and the developed world.
