Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In Chon on Dec. 9 stressed that the country's environment is "safe and convenient" for foreign tourists.
At the Korea-Japan Tourism Business Forum held at the hotel Shilla Seoul in the capital, he said this in a speech on "Collaboration between the Travel and Related Industries to Expand the Tourism Experience."
The event was among those seeking to raise cooperation in tourism with Japan ahead of next year, which marks the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties. About 120 people attended including figures from government, public tourism agencies, regional entities and the tourism industry from both countries.
Minister Yu repeatedly emphasized that Korea is safe for travel amid spreading fears over public safety due to the recent declaration and nullification of martial law.
"As you can see, daily life is smoothly proceeding in Korea and every visitor is enjoying their time here comfortably," he said. "The Korean government will do all it can to ensure tourist safety and convenience."
"Daily life in Korea goes on as usual, and leading tourist attractions are running normally, too," Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Jang Miran added in echoing the minister's stance. "The government is also doing its best so that all tourists can safely enjoy Korea without inconvenience."
