This year has seen 1,386 Honorary Reporters from 93 countries write articles on Korea in genres ranging from policies and economy to society and culture. They produced some 6,000 pieces of content in 10 languages to promote the country to the world.
The following is a list of the top Honorary Reporter stories based on the number of hits, quality, timeliness and other factors.
2 Statues of Peace in Europe remember sexual slavery victims (Daniela Astolfi from Italy in English)
In written interviews with those who attended a July 22 ceremony to unveil the Statue of Peace in Italy, this Italian honored the painful history of Korea. Earlier on July 17, she interviewed Melissa Minseong Seo, director of the Berlin Korean Dance Project, which protests the Japanese government's attempt to remove the statue in Berlin given its significance.
Hidden charm of Namhae (Frenky Ramiro de Jesus from East Timor in Indonesian)
This Honorary Reporter from May 11-12 joined a tour of Namhae-gun County, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, along with fellow Honorary Reporters and K-influencers. After sampling myeolchi bokkeum (stir-fried anchovies), he said, "The taste of soft yet crunchy anchovies are so addictive that it makes me want to eat more."
These two writers on Sept. 8 covered the K-Comics World Tour in Hanoi that ran from Sept. 7-22. They described the event and their experiences with interactive spots recreating scenes from popular K-dramas such as "Itaewon Class" and "Sweet Home."
Meeting with author Chung Bora in Warsaw, Poland (Anzhelika Datunashvili from Georgia in Russian)
This fan of Korea on May 25 attended a Q&A in the Polish capital with novelist Chung Bora (Bora Chung), who wrote "Cursed Bunny." She quoted Chung as saying she wants to deliver through her work a message of hope for the future from a supernatural perspective.
Aya Fahmy Elhadidy from Egypt shared her experience of making gejang, or blue crab marinated in spicy seasoning, which has gained popularity on social media.
Huang Xiaotong from China said in her article "Experience Exciting Baseball Games in Korea" that she went to a game while traveling in Korea with friends, adding she had fun experiencing the country's cheering culture.
French journalist Lantou Onirina interviewed Lee Sol-hui, who directed the internationally acclaimed "Greenhouse," and Lee's exploration of a woman and her daughter in the film and caring between life and death.
